Kit, An American Girl Mystery

Kit, An American Girl Mystery, is very intriguing with a good plot, although it didn’t stick to the real storyline. Once Francis and Florence have to leave their home because they can’t pay the rent, everything starts breaking into pieces. Kit has to let boarders stay in her house, and sell eggs to make money. Kit’s dad has to go to Chicago to find work, which is like the book in some ways.

I would give the movie 3 1/2 stars. It had a very good plot, but was a bit disappointing that it wasn’t a lot like the book. What did you think about the movie? If you didn’t see it, do you want to see it?

One day while I was just looking out the window, I happened to see an advertisement for the Kit movie.

The advertisement was on a cab.

Also, I went to the movie theater one day and they were advertising things as usual, and I looked at what they were presenting and it was an advertisement for the Kit movie!

This shows that the excitement is closer than ever!!!

Ruthie is out, yes, Ruthie is out! Did you hear me? RUTHIE IS OUT! It’s so exciting, I can’t stop screaming! I can’t think straight! Just do me a favor, look at the pictures below before I blow up!

This is Ruthie, she is beautiful! She has two outfits out, not including her meet outfit. I can’t speak much longer, so I have to do this fast.

Kit also has some new outfits out, and they are the floral print dress, and a striped nightie. The floral print dress includes:

. A sleeveless floral dress her mother made from a chicken-feed sack
. A flower barrette for her hair
. Mary Jane shoes with scalloped details

With the nightie, there are slippers and a headband.

This is Ruthie’s pink satin pajamas. I wish I had a pair! It includes slippers and a polka-dot sash.

Ruthie also has a play outfit. This is what it looks like. It includes:

. A periwinkle top with tan accents at the neckline and cuffs
. Tan twill knickers with a belt at the waist
. Patterned knee socks and two-tone oxford shoes
. A matching felted hat trimmed with ribbon and flowers

These are Ruthie’s accessories. The accessories include

. A black purse with a front pocket and silver clasp
. A pretty hankie printed with flowers
. Two rose-shaped barrettes to style her hair
. A pretend watch with hands that “move” — a special gift from her father

Have you ever been in a situation where your doll’s hair is unmanageable? Probably. Here are a few tips for your dolls hair so that it can stay manageable.

First, NEVER brush your doll’s hair without wetting it first. Bad things can happen!

Second, Always use the American girl brush.

Third, if you are having trouble use a toothbrush (an old one), it works!

Fourth, if you see just a few strands of hair coming out of the end of your doll’s hair, you can cut it, just don’t cut too much off. It won’t grow back!

Fifth, don’t be alarmed if hair comes out when you brushing, it happens.

Sixth, if you have something resembling a spray bottle, fill it up with water and spray it on your doll’s hair before brushing.

Seventh, if you are braiding or doing something with your doll’s hair where you need a holder, get the holder before you start.

Hope these tips help keep your doll’s hair more manageable.

For those of you who don’t know who Helen Keller is, stay tuned. Helen Keller was one of the few girls who was deaf and blind, but learned how to become an amazing leader.

The photo below was just found, and is currently the first picture of Helen and her doll. By that time, age eight, Helen had collected many dolls, but never had a picture taken with them. The young lady next to her is Anne Sullivan, her teacher. It’s possible the doll was given to her by her teacher, but it could be another one of her dolls.

You’re probably wondering what this has to do with American Girl. Well, Helen loved her doll just like a normal girl loves her American girl doll. Doesn’t the doll in the picture look a bit like an American girl?

The doll has a wig with no center part. The more expensive dolls of bisque usually had wigs with a side part and usually had longer hair. So it is probably not bisque. The short hair-do may have been due to a re-styling with scissors by a young girl!

The doll seems to be well-loved so may have been a metal (tin) head Minerva (or Minerva type) doll. The Sears catalog of 1902 shows a similar wig on their “indestuctible” metal head doll - these dolls had been available as much as 15 years before the catalog. The hands on Helen’s doll also match the Sears illustration.

This doll is a close up of what Helen’s dolls could’ve looked like. It’s a minerva doll, which means it has a head made out of a sheet of metal! Not the kind of doll we would want to be hugging today!
